New Delhi, Feb 17: Nearly 9 lakh student-borrowers can profit close to Rs.2,600 crore, finance minister P. Chidambaram said Monday, whereas presenting the interim allow 2014-15 within the Lok Sabha.
“Nearly 9 lakh student-borrowers can profit to the tune of roughly Rs.2,600 crore. A total of Rs.2,600 crore are provided within the current financial year itself,” Chidambaram said.
He said ten years ago, only a number of students got education loans.
“Ten years ago, only a few thousand students, principally the socially connected, got education loans,” he said.
