Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry had summoned Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale in Islamabad on Thursday and declared Surjeet Singh as persona non grata and requested that he depart the nation by Saturday.

The Pakistani Foreign Office in a press release stated: “The Foreign Secretary expressed deep concern over the actions of the Indian official that have been in violation of the Vienna Conference and the established diplomatic norms” when Indian High Commission official in Islamabad leaves for home.

The motion got here hours after Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar summoned Pakistan Excessive Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi that day to protest in opposition to Mehmood Akhtar, a visa officer on the Pakistan High Commission, who India accused of spying.

Basit was informed that Akhtar had been declared persona non grata and will depart India by October 29 as Indian High Commission official in Islamabad leaves for home.

Pakistan has denied the espionage expenses levelled towards Akhtar as “false and unsubstantiated”, and alleged that Indian police “manhandled” him.
