Haryana polls: Mewat Muslims reject PM, Rahul; turn to jailed Chautala

Mewat: Neither the PM wave nor Rahul Gandhi’s visit looks to chop any ice among the voters of the Muslim-dominated Mewat district in Haryana.

For the voters of Mewat, that includes 3 assembly constituencies of Nuh,  Jhirka, Ferozepur, and Punaha, former Haryana CM and leader of Indian National Lok dal (INLD) Om Prakash Chautala is the icon. Even Chautala’s jail term for alleged corruption hasn’t bent his quality amongst the folks here, especially the Meo Muslims.
The INLD will make it now. No Modi wave or Rahul Gandhi’s rally during this district would have any adverse impact on INLD candidates,” said hajji Suleman, an farmer and a tea-stall owner at Nuh. “Every family here finally ends up paying Rs 2,000 per month in buying water. Has the Congress done anything in the last eight years that it thinks it could ask us to vote for it?” he questioned.

“Chautala’s imprisonment would go into his favour, as INLD would get sympathy vote and also the Congress may end up third, even behind the BJP in Mewat,” said Mohammed Khan, a farmer of Rehwasan village on State route thirteen – that connects Mewat to Alwar.
