Guwahati, March 01: A woman who had come to meet Congress vice chairman Rahul Gandhi throughout his Assam tour Wed, however stayed outside the venue, was burnt to death by her husband, police said Saturday.
Police said they were work the reason behind the incident, that happened in Jorhat district.
Superintendent of Police Amanjeet Kaur said a case of unnatural death had been registered. She said the victim, Bonti Chutia, died of burn injuries, whereas her husband, Someswar Chutia, had also sustained 35 p.c burn injuries.
Kaur processed that the victim wasn’t the who was shown on tv kissing Congress vice chairman Rahul Gandhi.
“We have talked to people and came to know that though she (the victim) came to the venue Wed to act with the Congress leader, she stayed outside the programme for some reasons,” Kaur said.
“We also came to know from the neighbours that each the husband and wife had a strained relationship for a long time which can be one of the reasons for the incident,” she said.
