Never opposed them, but opinion polls doubtful: Congress

New Delhi, November 4 The Congress Monday defended its view that opinion polls should be restricted throughout election time but asserted that it ne’er opposed them.

“We have not opposed opinion polls… but the party has maintained that they’re doubtful… we do not trust them,” Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal told reporters when asked about his party’s response to the election commission (EC).

In its October thirty response to the ec, the Congress supported the commission’s read that opinion polls ought to be restricted during election time.

Opinion polls during elections are not scientific. there’s no perfect and clear method for such polls

The ec had wanted the views of the political parties on restricting publication and dissemination of opinion polls during elections.
Congress response, these random surveys “lack credibility” and will be “manipulated and manoeuvred” by people with “vested interests”.

A ban on the publication of opinion polls forty eight hours before voting is over is operational at present.
