CHANDIGARH: In a shocking incident, a sub-inspector and a jawan of BSF allegedly outraged the modesty of an 8-year-old girl in the New Delhi bound train, near Ambala during late night hours of Friday.Accused sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh and constable Rajbir Singh also assaulted the victim’s parents. Both of them were overpowered by co-passengers who later on handed over them to government railway police (GRP) men at Ambala cantonment railway station.

Investigating officer sub-inspector Riyaz Ahmed said that both the accused men have been arrested and a case under sections 354 and 323 of IPC has been registered against them.

“We have sought the district attorney’s opinion for adding sections of POSCO Act against the accused. Both the accused have confessed their involvement in crime,” he said.

Investigations revealed that the incident took place in coach number S-12 of the Jammu Tawi-New Delhi Anand Vihar Express. According to victim’s father, the incident took place when the train was approaching towards Ambala cantonment. In their mid 30s, Sukhbir and Rajbir of 46BN of BSF had boarded the train from Jalandhar railway station. They are on the way to Bhuj (Gujarat) and were supposed to board the connecting train to Gujarat from Anand Vihar railway station.

The victim and her family were on board the same bogey and were travelling from Jammu Tawi to Merrut.

“It was during late night hours when the girl started crying. When her parents enquired, the victim revealed the entire episode as to how the two removed her clothes and outraged her modesty. As victim’s parents and relative objected, Sukhbir and Rajbir, who were apparently drunk, assaulted them. Meanwhile other co-passengers also woke up and overpowered them,” the investigating officer said. “By the time train reached Ambala cantonment railway station, both of them were handed over to us.”
