Kolkata, Feb 11: At least 16 people, most of them returning from a marriage party, were killed early Tuesday once the vehicle carrying them collided with a truck in West Bengal’s Malda district, police said.
The sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided head-on with a rushing truck in Eight Mile space of Malda city.
While police known 13 bodies of the people who were aboard the SUV and were returning from a marriage, the identity of 3 people who died of injuries during a hospital are however to be established, said Malda Superintendent of Police Kalyan Mukherjee.
The injured were admitted to the Malda Medical college and Hospital.
Tourism Minister Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury said the govt declared payment of Rs.2 lakh every for the families of the dead which it’ll also bear the medical expenses of the burned.
In another accident in Gazole within the same district, 2 people were killed and 2 others injured once their vehicle collided with a stationary truck.
