ICC World Cup: Modi wishes heads of SAARC nations

ICC-MNew Delhi, Feb 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, together with the heads of SAARC nations, to convey his best needs for their groups who are taking part within the ICC cricket World Cup 2015, an announcement aforesaid Fri.

The prime minister tweeted Fri that he had spoken to Sharif and the heads of alternative SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries whose groups are playing within the tournament to wish them luck.

“Spoke to President @ashrafghani, PM Sheikh Hasina, PM Nawaz Sharif and President Sirisena. sent my best needs for the Cricket World Cup,” the prime minister tweeted.

Noting that 5 SAARC nations are playing and are excited regarding the world Cup, Modi said: “Am positive WC can celebrate sport spirit and can be a treat for sports lovers.”

“Cricket connects people in our region and promotes goodwill. Hope players from SAARC region play with passion and produce laurels to the region,” he said.

The prime minister enlightened Nawaz Sharif regarding India’s initiative to send new Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar on a “SAARC yatra” or tour of South Asian countries, together with Pakistan.

“Would be causation our new foreign secretary on a SAARC Yatra before long to more strengthen our ties,” the prime minister aforesaid.

India combat Pakistan in their 1st tournament 2015 match in Adelaide Sunday.

As the tournament began Thursday, Modi had tweeted individual needs for every member of Team India, together with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and vice captain Virat Kohli.
