New Delhi, Aug 30: Noted Indian historian Bipan Chandra died in his sleep Sat morning, family members aforesaid. He was 86.
He died at his home in Gurgaon.
The former professor of history was conjointly considered to be an authority on Mahatma Gandhi.
Author of many books like “The making of modern India: From Marx to Gandhi”, “History of modern India” and “The Rise and Growth of Economic Nationalism in India”, Chandra was conjointly the previous chairman of the National Book Trust (2004-12).
Congress leader Naveen Jindal mourned his death and tweeted: “Sad to listen to concerning the decease of noted historian Bipan Chandra. might his soul rest in peace.”
Chiki Sarkar, publisher at penguin Books India, said: “He was one of our (Penguin India’s) most revered authors and whose books on Indian history are browse by generations of readers. we mourn his passing.”
