Jwala Gutta shocked after her name is withdrawn from Denmark OpenNew Delhi:  Jwala Gutta has been left stunned. Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Wednesday withdrew her name from Denmark Open – scheduled to take place next week – leaving the player fuming at not even being informed about the decision. This despite her petition in the Delhi High Court challenging a life-ban imposed on her.

While Gutta on Wednesday, had taken legal  action against the ban and not being in contention for selections, BAI still decided to withdraw her entry which was reflected in the official website of the tournament. She was scheduled to combine once again with Ashwini Ponnappa – her partner in the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold-medal winning triumph – but Ponnappa’s entry too was withdrawn. “Have no words…shocked…my entries withdrawn…without informing me…what kind of system are we running…pls tell me,” wrote the 30-year-old shuttler on her Twitter page after maintaining her silence since being punished on disciplinary grounds.

A disciplinary committee had recommended a life-ban on the player after it was alleged that she tried to stop her Delhi Smashers teammates from playing a match against Banga Beats in the recent Indian Badminton League.

While most former players have said that the ban is too harsh, Gutta’s father has alleged that she is being targeted. “We will decide our course of action once the Delhi High Court takes up her plea. I spoke to Jwala and she wants a permanent solution to the problem. The denial to play an event or two can be dealt with. We can’t help it. Jwala’s ultimate aim is to qualify for the next Olympics and bring a medal for the country,” Kranti Gutta told a national newspaper.

BAI however has constituted a probe panel but has also clarified that Jwala will not be part of national or international selections till the panel submits its report.
