The 18-hour common strike was known as from Friday midnight by the Coordination Committee (Corcom) of the six outlawed underground organisations.

All instructional institutes, authorities offices, retailers and business institutions remained shut and autos have been off the roads in response to the shutdown name as Shutdown paralyses normal life in Manipur.

Safety was tightened in all weak areas as officers feared an outbreak of violence. Inter-state buses and vans had been stranded past Manipur’s borders.

A press release issued by Corcom mentioned King Budhachandra of Manipur was summoned to Shillong, then in undivided Assam, for signing the merger settlement on September 21, 1949 when Shutdown paralyses normal life in Manipur.

Nonetheless, the merger settlement was formally introduced on October 15, 1949, to synchronise with the merger of Tripura.
