According to researchers from University of East Anglia (UEA) and King’s college London in Britain, high levels of flavonoids including anthocyanins and different compounds in berries, tea and chocolate may guard against sort 2 diabetes.

High intakes of those dietary compounds are related to lower insulin resistance and higher blood glucose regulation, said the study printed in the Journal of Nutrition.
Researchers studied nearly 2,000 healthy women volunteers.

They found that those who consumed many anthocyanins and flavones had lower insulin resistance.

“High insulin resistance is related to sort two diabetes, thus what we are seeing is that individuals who eat foods made in these 2 compounds – like berries, herbs, red grapes, wine – are less likely to develop the disease,” said Aedin Cassidy from UEA’s Norwich medical school.

Those who had anthocyanins in large quantity were least likely to suffer chronic inflammation – that is related to many of today’s most pressing health issues as well as diabetes, obesity, upset and cancer, she added.

“Those who consumed the foremost flavone compounds had improved levels of a protein (adiponectin) that helps regulate variety of metabolic processes as well as glucose levels,” aforesaid Cassidy.

What we don’t yet know is precisely how much of those compounds are necessary to probably cut back the risk of type 2 diabetes, she added.
