O-CThiruvananthapuram, July 18: The Kerala cabinet rejig got a boost Friday once Speaker G. Karthikeyan expressed his want to step down for returning to active politics.

Addressing a conference Friday, every day once the assembly session ended, Karthikeyan aforesaid he has knowing Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, senior Congress leader A.K. Antony and party’s state president V.M. Sudheeran regarding his would like to step down.

“I have been committed the Congress from the age of fourteen years and all through, I have had the blessings of my party. it’s given me everything and i am massively indebted to that. Since i need to come back to active politics, I have asked my party to permit me to step down from the speaker’s post,” he said.

Karthikeyan, 65, is a six-time lawgiver and has painted a number of assembly constituencies within the capital district. He was a cabinet minister doubly once Antony headed the regime in 1995 and in 2001.

Chandy’s announcement of a cabinet rejig got delayed thanks to the party’s debacle within the Lok Sabha polls that prevented the party high command’s concurrence.

Sources near Chandy indicate Karthikeyan will become a minister and the speaker’s post can be given to Chandy’s shut aide and present Minister of Rural Development and Culture K.C. Joseph.

Among others being thought of for the post of speaker is Forest and Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.

All eyes are currently on Chandy to examine if he can simply replace Karthikeyan with a minister or if he picks recent faces once dropping a number of ministers.

With Sudheeran away in the us and returning only on July 25, a final image will be known  solely then.

Chandy has already created it clear that the rejig will be done once initial discussing it in the party, then within the United Democratic Front then with the party high command.

Incidentally, as and once Karthikeyan resigns, it’ll be well-tried once more that no speaker from the Congress has had a full five-year term.

Moreover, only K. Karunakaran of the Congress had a full five-year term as chief minister.
