New Delhi, Dec 14, 2016: 5 held in Delhi with over Rs 3 cr in banned currency. The Delhi Police Crime Branch and Income Tax Department has held 5 individuals right here with Rs three.25 crore in outdated forex notes, police stated on Wednesday.

The police mentioned the joint raid was carried out at Hotel Taksh Inn of Karol Bagh on Tuesday late evening, following a tip off.

Interrogation has revealed that the cash recovered belonged to Mumbai hawala operators, who had employed ‘particular’ packaging brokers to cross by airport safety with the money as 5 held in Delhi with over Rs 3 cr in banned currency. 

“The Income Tax Department officers seized Rs three.25 crore. The quantity recovered was saved in varied suitcases and automotive board containers which had all demonetised notes,” Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) of Crime Branch Ravindra Yadav mentioned.

“They’d employed packaging specialists who pack these notes in such a fashion that it’s undetectable by airport scanning machines. The specialists in packaging use some tapes and wires which passes by means of X-ray,” Ravindra Yadav stated when 5 held in Delhi with over Rs 3 cr in banned currency. 

The IT division was analyzing the cell particulars which allegedly comprise particulars of different hawala operators.
