By India Today Web Desk: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was in unfamiliar territory as Wolverhampton Wanderers fans reminded him that his days at the Anfield club might be coming to an end after the Reds were hammered 3-0 in a Premier League outing on Saturday, February 4. Klopp was faced with taunts from the fans at the Molineux Stadium after the German tactician cut a sorry figure.

“You’re getting sacked in the morning,” Wolves fans chanted gleefully as the home side got out of relegation zone with a thumping 3-0 win.

It was Liverpool’s second straight defeat as Klopp’s men have managed to just win one match in all competitions in the New Year. The defeat saw them stay at the 10th spot with 28 points, 11 points behind 4th-placed Newcastle United. Liverpool have not won a Premier League game since December 2022 as they have faced 3 defeats in their last 4 league outings.

After coming close to a historic quadruple last season, where they won two domestic cups and were runners-up in both the Champions League and Premier League, Klopp’s injury-hit and confidence-shorn team are a shadow of their former selves.

Wolves dominated from the word go, missing two good chances before a Hwang Hee-Chan cutback went in off the heel of Joel Matip for an own goal as early as the 5th minute. Only 7 minutes later, Wolves went 2-0 up, much to the delight of the Molineux fans as debutant Craig Dawson doubled the lead. Ruben Neves killed the game off in the 71st minute to deflate the visitors, who began to improve after the break.

DIP IN CONFIDENCE

Klopp refused to make excuses, saying it was no longer right to point to the impact of their energy-sapping 2021-22 campaign.

“The team is not full of confidence, you can see that. We caused the problems ourselves. I cannot always cover things… I don’t lose confidence in the boys, but I see where we have to improve.”

Liverpool have conceded as many as 28 goals in 21 matches, more than what they conceded in the whole of last season.

Klopp pointed fingers at their defensive indiscipline in the first 12 minutes where Liverpool handed a 2-0 lead to the hosts, who desperately needed 3 points.

“The start to the game was horrible. We caused the misery with the first 12 minutes… How can I not be concerned? You can criticise, you can judge us, you can say whatever you like, and you are probably right, because these 12 minutes are not allowed. That’s really hard to take, I have to say,” Klopp added.

Liverpool next face Everton in the league on February 13 even as speculation about Klopp’s future at Anfield is intensifying.
