By India Today Web Desk: Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning has said that they have one big game to go after reaching the final of the 2023 Women’s Premier League. DC beat UP Warriorz by five wickets to finish at the top of the WPL group table.
Speaking after the game, Lanning said she just wanted the team to win, while insisting that they weren’t at their best against UPW. Lanning scored 39 runs in 23 balls as DC beat UPW at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
“Just wanted the team to win and help the unit. I don’t think we were at our best. We were sloppy on the field. Was a reasonable wicket. We got off to a flier and helped us when it started to turn,” said Lanning.
She went on to say that Delhi just has one more big game to go and wants to nail that as well. One of Mumbai Indians or UP Warriorz will join DC in the final of the inaugural season of WPL.
“It seemed it came nicely with the new ball. They bowled a fair bit of spin towards the back end. We got some depth in batting. We have one big game to go. Hopefully, we will nail that. We will rest for a couple of days before the big game,” Lanning added.
18-year-old all-rounder Alice Capsey, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, said she tried to stay calm under pressure. Capsey picked up three wickets and scored 34 runs in 31 balls as DC beat UPW by five wickets.
“I played a different innings yesterday, which was fun. But I took some responsibility today. At number 3, it is about taking on the bowlers. I tried to stay calm under pressure. The duel with Sophie was superb. She is the world number 1 for a reason. First final of the WPL and that is exciting,” said Capsey.
