By India Today Web Desk: Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning has said that the bowlers played the biggest role in their win over Mumbai Indians. DC thrashed MI by 9 wickets to go top of the Women’s Premier League table.
Speaking after the match, Lanning said it was a great game by DC, adding that the bowlers won them the game. DC restricted MI to just 109/8 and chased down the target with 9 wickets and 11 overs remaining.
“It was a great game, hard to fault much. We got off well with the bowl, Kapp got us to a great start again and to chase down like that was brilliant. I think the bowler’s did it for us tonight, to restrict them to about 100 was great,” said Lanning.
The Australian opener also regained the Orange Cap after remaining unbeaten on 32, but said that she is not too worried about finishing as the top run-scorer but is focused on winning matches for DC.
“I was quite happy with the blue, not too worried about things like this. Just want a repeat performance like this, bat well, bowl well and hopefully get another win,” said Lanning.
Marizanne Kapp, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, said the whole bowling unit deserves praise, adding that it’s been a while since she’s seen a performance like that. Kapp picked up 2 wickets and giving away just 13 runs in 4 overs.
“To be honest, the whole bowling group deserves this award. Everyone bowled well today. Been a while since I’ve seen a performance like this, and the team has been working really hard and well together,” said Kapp.
The win for DC takes them above MI in the WPL charts and keeps their hopes alive of gaining direct qualification for the final.
