By India Today Sports Desk: Sophie Devine has claimed that milestone don’t get to her after scoring a scintillating 99 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Gujarat Giants in the WPL 2023 on Saturday.
Devine thrilled the crowd with her fearless batting against GG as RC needed to chase 189 runs for victory to keep themselves in the hunt for the playoffs in the competition.
The all-rounder hit nine boundaries and eight sixes in her 36-ball 99 and agonizingly missed out on a well-deserved hundred, which would have been a first in the history of the competition.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Devine first said she felt happy at beating Meg Lanning for the orange cap at the moment.
“Always nice to beat Meg in something,” said Devine.
Speaking about missing out on the hundred, Devine said that milestones don’t get to her and the objective was to get the team home early. The all-rounder remained hopeful that RCB could be in contention for the playoffs after the win. Devine said that she has got used to the conditions now and is learning every day.
Devine also heaped praise on the bowlers and said that her shot up the top tier was her favorite shot of the day.
“I was in the zone tonight, milestones don’t get to me so at 99 it wasn’t about a drop and run, it was about getting the team home earlier. Hopefully, we can still be in the run for the playoffs. I think I’ve got used to the conditions now, having watched a few games and I’m learning everyday. It perhaps help that I’m a bit older. Massive credit to the bowlers earlier, conditions were tough with minimal swing and no spin. They’ve done a lot of the hardwork today. I think I’ve just snuck in and taken the credit with this innings. I think the one that ended up in the top tiers was my favourite shot of today,” said Devine.
