By India Today Sports Desk: Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Smriti Mandhana felt that the team gave away 10-15 runs more than what they expected to as the franchise suffered their third successive loss in the WPL 2023 against the Gujarat Giants on Wednesday.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, the Gujarat Giants got off to a flying start thanks to Sophia Dunkley, who scored the fastest fifty of the season so far. The England batter received good support from Harleen Deol and the fifties from the duo helped the Giants post 201 runs in their 20 overs.

In response, Sophie Devine had given the right start for RCB as she put on a 54-run partnership for the first wicket with Mandhana. The departure of the RCB skipper put the brakes on the scoring rate. Despite Devine and Heather Knight’s efforts, the Giants won the match by 11 runs in the end to register their first points of the season.

Speaking after the match, as quoted by Cricinfo, Mandhana rued the fact that they gave away 10-15 runs above par, which meant they had to chase 202 in the end.

The RCB skipper said that the short boundary did play on the minds of her bowlers and that is an area they’re working on at the moment.

“I think I’d say even in our bowling, we gave away 10-15 runs more than what we expected to. There were two-three overs where we conceded a lot, and not 6-7 runs. We would have gotten better [with the target] otherwise. It’s a good outfield, one end is really short, that did play with few of our bowlers’ in mind, we are trying to work on it,” said Mandhana.

The RCB skipper said there were a few positives from the match in the form of Shreyanka Patil and Kanika Ahuja.

“A few positives. Shreyanka, the way she bowled and batted, she is a tough girl. And also Kanika’s performance, they both have been good from the domestic circuit,” said Mandhana.
