By India Today Sports Desk: USA fast bowler Tara Norris said that she wishes to raise awareness about associate nations by taking part in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Norris was picked to play for the Delhi Capitals (DC) and is the only cricketer from an associate nation to take part in the T20 tournament.
“It’s nice to come here, have a run around and assess the conditions,” Norris was quoted as saying.
The 24-year-old Norris mentioned that it was England cricketer Alex Hartley, who broke the news to her.
“I actually hadn’t watched the auction as I was training back in England. I hadn’t finished training when I got a message from Alex Hartley. She messaged me saying ‘congratulations, you got picked at the auction’. I was really surprised and honoured to be here and getting picked not only as a USA cricketer, but to represent the Associates as well,” she stated.
Norris talked about the struggles that female cricketers in the USA go through and wishes to make them proud.
“Definitely want to make the associates proud. A lot of girls struggle with a lot of funding, facilities and fixtures available. So, I wanted to make them proud and hopefully raise the awareness and get more players involved,” Norris added.
Norris has played five T20Is thus far in which she has picked up four wickets at an economy rate of 1.72. She also plays for the Southern Vipers in England’s domestic cricket.
Norris also played for the Southern Brave in the Women’s Hundred where the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Danni Wyatt and Anya Shrubsole have taken part.
