‘Reddy’, Steady, Go: 43 Members from Community Make It to Telangana Assembly in Highest Ever Tally

The AIMIM has successfully sent all its seven candidates from the Muslim community to the assembly, whereas the two from the BRS and the four from the Congress of the same community lost.

As many as 13 candidates from the Velama community also won the polls, up from 11 in 2018, and 10 in 2014. Four candidates from the Kamma community, one each from the Brahmin and Vysya communities have also been elected

The recent Telangana polls have sent more representatives from the Reddy community to the assembly than the previous two editions. The tally has risen to 43, compared to 42 in 2018, and 40 in 2014.

The Reddy community has the most number of representatives compared to others in the assembly of 119 members.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has successfully sent all its seven candidates from the Muslim community to the assembly, whereas the two from the BRS and the four from the Congress of the same community lost.

The number of legislators from the backward classes dropped to 19, compared to 20 in 2014, and 22 in the 2018 elections. The winners represent various communities, including Goud (4), Munnuru Kapu (3), Padmashali (2), and one each from the Vanjari, Kurma, Yadav, Perika, Bondhili, Gangaputra, Rajaka, Mudhiraj, Arya Marati, and Lodha communities.

The SC/ST declaration of the Congress released by party president Mallikarjun Kharge during the poll campaign drew voters of particular communities in a big way. The grand old party sent 14 MLAs from the SC community out of a total of 19 legislators. The party also has nine legislators out of 12 from the ST community.
