By India Today Sports Desk: Australia captain Pat Cummins’s mother Maria passed away on Thursday after a prolonged battle against illness. Cricket Australia took to social media to share the news of the passing away of Cummin’s mother as it expressed condolences to the grieving cricketer and his family.
The Australian cricket team will wear black armbands as a mark of respect on Day 2 of the ongoing 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green, the two overnight batters, wear wearing black armbands as they walked out to resume the Australian innings at 255 for 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends. The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Pat Cummins led the Australian team in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, the fast bowler returned home to be with his ailing mother after the completion of the Delhi Test.
