By India Today Sports Desk: Skipper Babar Azam said that Pakistan are focussed on the 50-over World Cup to be played in India later this year. After India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, there were uncertainties about whether Babar’s men would travel to India for the multi-nation mega event.
Even as any concrete information regarding Pakistan’s tour is yet to come to the fore, Babar sounded confident that his team has every chance of doing well in the World Cup.
“We are focused on the World Cup in India and will try to put up a good show during the tournament,” Babar was quoted as saying in an interview with Geo News.
Babar reckoned that his form along with that of Mohammad Rizwan is important. However, the captain also talked about cricket being a team game and the need for other players to step up in the hour of need.
“I will try to score runs alongside Mohammad Rizwan since we have a good combination at the top. But having said that it is not possible to score in every innings, which is why it is important not to depend on only two players in the team.”
“However, we also have other players in the team who are eager to play a match-winning role for the team on the field,” he stated.
Babar also talked about facing criticism and how he deals with it.
“Criticism will continue because it is not possible that everyone will speak in your favour. I always try to stay positive since it improves my level of confidence,” Babar added.
Babar is currently leading the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2023 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He has already scored two half-centuries in the tournament.
