By India Today Sports Desk: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains optimistic about his team’s future despite a disappointing season that concluded with a 4-4 draw against Southampton.

Klopp believes that Liverpool will be strong contenders once again and has attributed their struggles this season to a temporary dip in form. The Reds narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League last season, finishing just one point behind champions Manchester City and losing the Champions League final.

This season, Liverpool finished fifth in the league and failed to secure a spot in the Champions League for the first time since the 2016-17 season. However, Klopp highlighted the team’s unbeaten run in their final 11 matches as a source of encouragement and a sign that they can regain their form next season.

“There were moments during this season where you thought it [the struggle] would be four years long,” said Klopp. “Imagine if we were our normal self [earlier in the season], which we absolutely will be next season and we will be a contender again. The last 11 games helped us to realise that again.”

In the match against Southampton, Liverpool took an early lead with goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, who scored in his final appearance for the club. However, Southampton fought back, equalising with goals from James Ward-Prowse and Kamaldeen Sulemana, who completed a remarkable turnaround early in the second half. Adam Armstrong extended Southampton’s lead, but Liverpool showed resilience, with Cody Gakpo and Jota scoring to salvage a draw.

Although Mohamed Salah hit the post in the closing minutes, neither team could find a winner in what was described as a highly entertaining match. Liverpool’s season may have ended on a disappointing note, but Klopp’s unwavering belief in his team’s potential suggests that the Reds will come back stronger in the upcoming season.
