By India Today Web Desk: Young India keeper-batter Ishan Kishan won many admirers with his gesture of refusing to sign next to MS Dhoni’s signature on a mobile phone cover. After Jharkhand’s game against Kerala, a supporter asked Ishan to sign his phone’s cover, which already had MS Dhoni’s autograph. Ishan politely declined to add his signature above MS Dhoni’s.
“Mahi bhai ka hai signature aur uske upar bol rahe hain mera karne…mereko thoda ho nahi raha hai (This is Mahi bhai’s signature and you are telling me to sign above it. I can’t do this.” “Mahi bhai ka signature hai upar, abhi humlog utna pahunche nahi hai wahan par…neeche karta hun. (I have not reached the level of MS Dhoni, I will sign at the bottom)”
Kishan, 24, recently made history by registering the fastest double hundred in men’s ODIs. On December 10, he smashed 210 off 131 balls in the third match against Bangladesh in Chattogram. The keeper-batter is currently representing Jharkhand in the 2022-2023 Ranji Trophy season.
Following Kishan’s record-breaking double century against Bangladesh, his coach, Uttam Majumdar, revealed what Dhoni had told the young wicketkeeper-batter prior to his India debut.
“Even before Ishan made his India debut, I know MS would tell him that if a talent like him doesn’t play for the country for a long time, he will be doing injustice not to anyone else but himself,” Majumdar told PTI.
Majumdar added that he saw a spark in Kishan even when he was six years old.
“The first day Ishan came for training, he was so tiny, that I fed him with under-arm balls and that kid played perfect cover drives. The moment I saw a few cover drives from a six-year-old, I told Pranav ji (Kishan’s father), your son is special and he has to be unlucky if he doesn’t play for India.”
