By India Today Sports Desk: Rajasthan Royals pacer Sandeep Sharma said he backed himself to bowl a yorker in the last ball of their match against Chennai Super Kings. Sandeep defended seven runs in the last three balls to help RR beat CSK at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

Speaking with Lasith Malinga and Yuzvendra Chahal for a video released by IPL, Sandeep said he has been working on his Yorkers, while adding that only because it was MS Dhoni, could he hit his first ball of the last over for a six. Sandeep was hit for back-to-back sixes by Dhoni before giving away just three runs in the last three balls of the game.

“I have been working with him on yorkers and it is coming nicely. I also think that the ball that was hit for six, the first one, was a tough ball, but only because it was Mahi bhai, he was able to hit it. So, I feel I executed nicely, but obviously, it is always nice to end up on the right side,” said Sandeep.

He went on to say that the wicket was a bit slow, which is why he bowled a slow bouncer which went for a wide. Sandeep bowled consecutive wide balls to start his over, before going for a single and subsequently being hit for two sixes by Dhoni.

“The wicket was a bit slow, the spinners had bowled really well. I thought that I would start off with a slow bouncer, but that did not turn out well at all. That was not only a wide, but also one bouncer for the over, so I did not have too many options left,” Sandeep added.

Sandeep said he backed himself to bowl a yorker in the final ball of the game since he bowls it well in the nets. With five runs needed in the last ball, Sandeep bowled a yorker to stop Dhoni from smashing him for another six, winning the game for his side by three runs.

“The next ball I went for a yorker, but that also went for a wide. But I still backed myself, because I was looking to bowl to the bigger side of the ground. But when I went for two sixes in a row, I realized that I should change the angle. For the last ball, I backed myself to bowl the yorker, I bowl it well in the nets,” Sandeep concluded.
