By India Today Sports Desk: Alex Carey heaped praise on centurion Virat Kohli, saying the Indian star is a “class player” and he did not give Australia any chance in the ongoing fourth Test in Ahmedabad.

Kohli smashed his 28th Test hundred and 75th in international cricket on Day 4 at Narendra Modi Stadium. The former India captain stood tall when the team needed him the most, playing a crucial knock to keep the hosts in the contest against Australia.

Carey said that he was not surprised with Kohli’s innings. The Australia wicketkeeper-batter in the press conference said: “No surprise he got it in a decent batting track and went big and showed how to do it really.”

“He’s a class player and he didn’t really give us a chance. We knew it was going to be tough bowling to Virat. We were able to contain him as much as we could and try to take wickets around him. Anytime you come to India and Virat’s next in or batting, you know it’s going to be noisy and he played really well today. But I thought we hung in really well…”

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, while speaking to India Today, said that Kohli needed this kind of a knock to get back into the rhythm. The former cricketer added that he wants Kohli to build on this hundred and continue to be the “vintage Virat Kohli” for the team.

“He (Kohli) must be very relieved with his hundred and so are all his fans. I wanted him to score runs and all the other batters as well. I wanted to see if they could play on better wickets where they also have their chance to score those runs and I’m so glad they actually got the wicket where they had the chance to score runs,” Harbhajan told India Today.

“Virat Kohli being Virat Kohli. He needed this kind of a knock to get back into the rhythm and the kind of rhythm India would need him to be going forward. I hope from here onwards we see the upward for Virat Kohli and he will continue to be the vintage Virat Kohli for all of us and score many many runs for team India.”
