Arshdeep Singh said that he thought he would be the ‘culprit’ of the game before delivering the win for India in the final over against Australia in the fifth T20I on Sunday.

The left-arm pacer wasn’t having the best night at the Chinnaswamy, as he conceded 37 runs in his three overs. He did get the wicket of Ben McDermott, who had scored a brilliant 54.

The match was evenly-poised heading into the final six balls as Australia needed 10 runs with Matthew Wade at the crease. Arshdeep would hold his nerve and delivered the wicket of Wade by the third ball of the over to swing the game well and truly in India’s favour.

The left-arm pacer conceded just three runs in the final over as India won the match by 6 runs.

Speaking to JioCinema after the match, Arshdeep said that he thought he had given away too many runs upfront. The left-arm pacer said that there was nothing going through his mind in the final over and said that Suryakumar Yadav gave him confidence.

“I guess, for the big part of the game. For almost 19 overs, I was thinking that I gave away too many runs, and I’d be the culprit of the game. But God gave me another chance and I believed in myself and thanks to God that I defended it and thanks to the staff as well, who believed in.”

“To be honest, nothing was going through my mind. Surya bhai told me that whatever happens, happens and credit goes to our batters as well. They gave us a really good total here on a tricky wicket and we had a cushion of extra 15 to 20 runs. And credit goes to them as well,” said Arshdeep.

Arshdeep delivered an honest verdict on his performance in the series and felt it was below-par and claimed he needs to rethink and perform better in the future.

“I think it was just a par series for me personally. I need to rethink and perform even better in the future. I will take all the learnings from this series. The bowling wasn’t near par, according to the standards of the Indian team, but a lot of lessons learnt but I will come back from the mistakes,” said Arshdeep.
