The Mumbai Cricket Association is all set to unveil Sachin Tendulkar’s life-sized statue at the Wankhede Stadium on the batting legend’s 50th birthday — April 24, 2023.

By India Today Sports Desk: Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar said on Tuesday that he was pleasantly surprised when the Mumbai Cricket Assoction revealed their plans to install a life-sized statute of him at the Wankhede Stadium in the city. Tendulkar thanked the MCA, saying he is grateful and that his life has come a full circle.

Sachin Tendulkar, who began his cricket journey in the maidans of Mumbai, realised his dream by winning the World Cup title in 2011 at the iconic venue. He also played his last Test, his 200th Test, against the West Indies at the venue in 2013.

The life-sized statue of Sachin Tendulkar is all set to be unveiled on his 50th birthday, April 24, 2023 at the Wankhede, according to news agency PTI. The cricket hero already has a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium and also has a wax statue of him at Madame Tussauds in London.

“I started my cricketing journey representing Mumbai. India winning the World Cup in 2011 remains the biggest moment in my life. My last match representing India, was very memorable, and that happened in Mumbai as well,” Tendulkar said.

“Life has come a full circle for me at Wankhede, which has been witness to some very special moments. When the Mumbai Cricket Association suggested my statue at Wankhede, I was pleasantly surprised.

“I’ve always taken a lot of pride in representing Mumbai cricket, and my wonderful association with the MCA continues today as well. I’m very grateful to them for this kind of gesture,” he added.

The announcement was earlier done by Mumbai Cricket Association president Amol Kale on the sidelines of Tendulkar’s visit to the Wankhede on Tuesday.

Tendulkar, who made his debut for India in 1989, played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs, scoring in excess of 34,000 runs in international cricket. The 49-year-old holds the record for most hundreds in international cricket — 100 among other recods.
