By India Today Sports Desk: Kevin Pietersen seems to have had enough of people telling him he was the first and only Test wicket for MS Dhoni. The former England batter took to social media on Tuesday, May 16 to put the rumours to rest with video evidence.

It all began when MS Dhoni joked about Kevin Pietersen being MS Dhoni’s first Test wicket during an IPL match in 2017. Kevin Pietersen, who was a commentator in the IPL in 2017, had a funny interaction over the microphone with Manoj Tiwary, who was playing for Rising Pune Super Giant, as he was standing at the slip cordon next to Dhoni.

Kevin Pietersen had told Tiwary to pass on a message to Dhoni, saying he was a better golfer than the former World Cup-winning India captain. “He is still my first Test wicket,” Dhoni responded, cracking up the commentators.

It’s been 6 years since the comment from Dhoni but Pitersen has been constantly asked whether he lost his wicket to MS Dhoni. Pietersen was even reminded about the sledge fest recently during his commentary stint in IPL 2023.

“I’m actively seeking the clip from the Test match at Lords to put to bed all these claims that I WAS Dhoni’s first Test Wicket. I hate to break it to you – I WASN’T!” Pietersen said in a post on Twitter.

The England star then shared a video from the 2011 Test between England and India at Lord’s to clarify the misconception while complementing MS Dhoni’s bowling skills.

“The evidence is CLEAR! I was NOT Dhoni’s first Test wicket. Nice ball though, MS!” he said.

The passage of play occurred on Day 1 of the first of a 4-match Test series between India and England in 2011 when MS Dhoni came to roll his arm over before the second new ball was taken.

Dhoni, who was leading the Indian Test team in the match, stepped in to bowl an over after Zaheer Khan picked up an injury. He troubled Kevin Pietersen with deliveries that seamed in.

Umpire Billy Bowden adjudged Pietersen out when MS Dhoni appealed for a caught behind. It looked close but Pietersen chose to review the decision quickly. However, the replays showed that the bat hit Pietersen’s pad and not the ball.

Dhoni has bowled 16 overs in Tests and ended up without taking a wicket.
