By India Today Web Desk: Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur has showered praise on Delhi Capitals openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, saying they have the best opening combination in the Women’s Premier League. MI is all set to lock horns with DC for the 2023 WPL title at the Brabourne Stadium on March 26.
Speaking ahead of the final, Harmanpreet said DC has the best opening combination in the tournament, adding that they now how dangerous they can be since they did well against them in the group-stage. Lanning is currently the top-scorer of the tournament with 310 runs in eight matches, while Shafali has amassed 241 runs at an incredible strike rate of 182.57.
“They have the best combination in the whole tournament and they also did well against us in the last game. We know what they can do and how dangerous they can be. We have our plans and hopefully we are able to execute them,” said Harmanpreet.
Speaking about leaders in the Mumbai Indians side, Harmanpreet said their team has national captains and vice-captains, which makes for a great team environment. MI opener Hayley Matthews is the captain of West Indies, Harmanpreet herself is the Indian skipper, while Natalie Sciver-Brunt is the vice-captain of England.
“We have many leaders in the camp, people who have captained their team and also been vice-captains. Some of the Indian players like Amanjot (Kaur) did well in South Africa. This makes for a great team environment,” Harmanpreet added.
Harmanpreet also touched upon the impact of WPL on Indian cricket, saying we weill start seeing the results in two or three years, and is confident that Indian women’s cricket will be at par with Australia.
“WBBL played a big role in development of cricket in their country and WPL is also going to have a same role for our cricket. The domestic players are going to get a lot of opportunities, many girls have done well as we have seen. We will start seeing the results in 2-3 years. I am confident that Indian talent is also going to do well like Australia are doing,” said Harmanpreet.
