Pixel 8 series launch event has been confirmed by Google

The Pixel 8 series will be launching with the new Tensor G3 chip next week and Google is expected make some big changes for its users.

The Pixel 8 series is the next main focus of the tech industry in October as Google looks to compete with the new iPhone 15 series in its own way. Reports have suggested that Google could finally match the iPhones with respect to the number of OS updates the Pixel phones will be getting.

In fact, early this week, it was tipped that the Pixel 8 series could get as many as 7 OS updates, which will take it from Android 14 to Android 21 and easily beat the number of iOS versions one iPhone gets.

But now things have been clarified by the tipster in this report, which says that the Pixel 8 series will get 7 years of updates, which could mean that the new Pixel 8 phones will be given 4 OS updates and three years of security updates, or the other way around.

Google has followed Apple’s strategy by powering its Pixel phones with the custom Tensor chip which has its own issues. But going to 7 years for OS updates would have beaten both Apple and even Samsung in this regard. Some reports have even suggested that Google could change the update policy for all the Tensor-powered Pixel phones that were introduced with the Pixel 6 series. People have been asking Google to make drastic changes to its software policy so that the Pixel phones can age better, retaining their value in the market.

Apple has offered 5 iOS updates for iPhones since the beginning and Samsung has changed its strategy in the past few years which has paid rich dividends. It is time Google follows these two brands and caters to the premium segment with better support for the devices.

The new Pixel 8 series and the Pixel Watch 2 are launching on October 4 in New York City and the India launch has been seemingly confirmed for October 5 as per the online teasers spotted recently.
