Chennai Super Kings won a dramatic and rain-truncated final of the 2023 Indian Premier League against Gujarat Titans. Faced with a record 215-run chase, rain interrupted CSK’s innings after just three balls.
After a wait of 2 hours and 20 minutes, CSK had a revised target: 171 runs off 15 overs. That meant among other things, reduced spells for Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma and Noor Ahmad – the most dangerous bowling unit of the IPL.
Credit to CSK for the way they approached their chase, though. Devon Conway was on fire while Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu played some cameos to bring the Super Kings close to their target. Ravindra Jadeja then kept his cool to pull off a sensational victory with a six and four off the final two balls of the title clash.
Could the Titans have defended 215? Was the rain rule just unfair to the bowling team?
Also, MS Dhoni laid to rest any rumour about his retirement and said he will be back next year to lead Chennai Super Kings.
Ravindra Jadeja, who had a poor season in 2022, played some crucial knocks and picked key wickets to help CSK along to their fifth title.
In another intense debate on the Sledging Room, Akshay Ramesh and Saurabh Kumar joined Rajarshi Gupta to break down the season that was in the 2023 IPL.
