By India Today Web Desk: Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has shared an x-ray image of his fractured finger. The 23-year-old scored an unbeaten half-century while batting through pain against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Green took to social media to post a few photos of the second Test match against South Africa, which also included an image of his broken finger’s x-ray. The 23-year-old captioned the post, a rollercoaster of a week.
Green was hit by an Anrich Nortje 145 kmph scorcher on the glove on Day 2 at the MCG, and immediately felt discomfort. Green left the field retired hurt after blood started pouring for his glove. He was expected to be ruled out of the Test match but he returned to bat and score an unbeaten half-century with a broken finger. However, he did not return to field or bowl in the South Africa’s second innings.
Green will go under the knife to repair a fracture to his right index finger and could be available in time when Australia fly out for the four-Test series against India.
Australia bowled the visitors out for just 208 runs in their second innings, comfortably winning the match by an innings and 182 runs to take a 2-0 unbeatable lead in the three-match series. Trailing by a massive 386 runs in the first innings, South Africa were bowled out for 204 in their second innings as Australia sealed the series 2-0 at the MCG.
Australia’s win, their fourth in a row in the home summer, solidified their lead in the World Test Championship while emphasising their dominance in the format. South Africa’s proud record in Australia lay in ruins on Thursday, despite having won the last three Test series there. It was their worst defeat in Australia, surpassing a 163-run defeat in Brisbane in 1931.
