COLOMBO: a minimum of thirty seven Indian fishermen are in remission by the Sri Lanka navy when they were fishing off the northern coast of the country, an officer said on Tuesday.
Thirty-seven Indian fishermen were arrested and 9 trawlers were seized yesterday,” Lankan naval spokesperson commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
They were arrested for breaching the International Maritime boundary off the northern coast of the island, the official said.
Four trawlers and fifteen fishermen were arrested off the delft ocean area whereas the others were detained off Talaimannar, the official added .
They were passed over to the Talaimannar police and were to be made in court on Tuesday.
