By India Today Web Desk: 18-year-old Rehan Ahmed is set to become England’s youngest Test cricketer when he makes his debut in the third Test against Pakistan.

England, who have already secured the series 2-0, will take on Pakistan in the final Test in Karachi from December 17. From their victorious playing XI in the second match, England made two changes, with Rehan replacing Will Jacks and Ben Foakes coming in for Jimmy Anderson.

At the age of 18 years 126 days, Rehan will also break Brian Close’s record, who made his Test debut at the age of 18 years 149 days. Rehan has a high score of 122 and picked nine wickets in three first class matches.

England are looking to complete the clean sweep over Pakistan and win their ninth out of 10 Test matches since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took over as captain and coach respectively.

“When we spoke about having Rehan into the squad, it was more than just bringing him in and integrating him into the squad,” Stokes said on the eve of the third Test when asked about the possibility of adding Rehan into the playing XI.

“We did speak about us having no issues with selecting him if we felt it was the right option. We picked him in the squad, not just because of his talent, but because we thought it would be a good opportunity to play if we thought it was necessary,” Stokes added.

England squad for the third Test against Pakistan: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood, Jack Leach.
