Tayeb Mehta’s painting sold for Rs.15 crore

TAYEBMumbai, Dec 12: Modernist artist Tayeb Mehta’s painting depiction “a bull on a rickshaw”, fetched whooping Rs.15 crore at Christie’s second India art auction here Thursday.

The work was bought by an online buyer and the quantity paid for the work is hammer worth and excludes buyer’s premium and taxes applicable.

A remarkable pocket book happiness to Nobelist Rabindranath Tagore was sold-out for Rs. 1.7 crore, where as F.N. Souza’s “Untitled” canvas fetched Rs.7.5 crore.

Tagore’s pocket book was in Bengali had a rare mixture of poetry, art and introspection.

Last year, in its debut auction Christie’s had sold a painting of V.S. Gaitonde for a record $3.7 million (Rs.23.7 crore).
