Modi, Sirisena inaugrates renovated stadium in Jaffna

New Delhi, June 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena inaugrated newly-renovated Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna on Saturday.

ModiWhereas Sirisena was current on the stadium in Jaffna, Modi joined the occasion by way of video-conferencing from New Delhi.

Modi mentioned that Indian authorities with Sirisena collectively dedicate to the folks of Sri Lanka the newly-renovated Duraiappah Stadium.

The Duraiappah Stadium, named in honour of a former mayor of Jaffna, late Alfred Thambirajah Duraiappah, has been renovated by the Indian authorities at a price of over Rs 7 crore ($1 million).

The renovated stadium has a seating capability of 1,850. It would present the mandatory infrastructure to advertise sports activities and leisure actions, and help the general improvement of the youth of the northern province in Sri Lanka.

The stadium was not in use since 1997.

On the second Worldwide Day of Yoga on June 21, Modi and Sirisena will even witness the primary main occasion on the renovated stadium.

Over eight,000 individuals are anticipated to take part within the Yoga day celebrations.
