“The spammers behind pretend likes have one goal – to form cash off of Page homeowners while not delivering any worth in return,” wrote Matt Jones, integrity engineer with Facebook, in a web log post.

“They build their profit by promising and generating likes to Facebook Page directors who usually don’t perceive that pretend likes will not facilitate them win their business goals,” he added.

According to him, Facebook has a “strong incentive to aggressively trail the bad actors behind fake likes because businesses and people who use our platform want real connections and results, not fakes”.In the past, the company has sued spammers and won “nearly $2 billion in legal judgments”.

“Since these deceitfuloperations are financially motivated businesses, we focus our energy on creating this abuse less profitable for the spammers,” Jones wrote.
