Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: India Thursday with success test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-I missile from a military base in Odisha, a defence official aforesaid.
The missile, which might strike a target 700 km away and might carry a one-tonne load, was tested by the soldiers as part of user trial from a facility on Wheeler Island close to Dhamra in Bhadrak district, 170 km from capital Bhubaneswar.
“It was an ideal launch,” director of the range M.V.K.V. Prasad told.
Agni is an intermediate vary ballistic missile. It uses solid propulsion booster and a liquid propulsion higher stage, derived from India’s initial indigenously developed ballistic missile Prithvi.
