BSF seizes heroin valued Rs.100 crore in Punjab

bsfAmritsar, Feb 5: The Border security force (BSF) said Tues it seized 20 kg of heroin valued at Rs.100 crore in the international market.

The seizure was created once a gun battle with smugglers from Pakistan close to the border outpost Bharopal in the Amritsar sector, 30 km from here, a BSF spokesman said.

The spot is found 150 metres inside Indian territory.

With this, the BSF has taken over 82 kg of heroin within the 1st 35 days of this year. a total of 322 kg was seized last year.

The spokesman said BSF personnel at Bharopal post observed suspicious movement on the border fence.

“When challenged, the smugglers fired at the BSF. we retaliated. The smugglers, taking advantage of the dense fog, escaped back to Pakistan,” the spokesperson said.

BSF Punjab Frontier officer Ajay Singh Tomar has asked his men to be vigilant on the 553-km India-Pakistan border in Punjab to thwart smuggling of drugs.
