BJP in Delhi pinning all hopes on Modi to win elections
modiNew Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party is pinning all its hopes on Gujarat Chief Narendra Modi not just for 2014 Lok Sabha polls but for the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi too. The party is pulling out all stops to ensure Modi’s mega rally in the national capital on Sunday is a success. A week ago, it was a massive show of strength by the BJP’s top brass in Bhopal where almost leader attended the rally. Now the stage is set for a repeat in the national capital. As the BJP prepares to host Modi in his first election campaign in New Delhi after his elevation as the party’s prime ministerial candidate, the party is leaving no stone unturned to make the event a mega success. Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel says, “We are expecting 5 lakh people and we have arranged 3,000 buses to get them here.” However, things are quite different in Delhi. Bhopal was BJP bastion but in New Delhi, Modi will be campaigning for a faceless BJP riven by infighting. BJP leader Harshvardhan says, “Modi will help us in getting votes in the coming elections.” Massive preparations are being done by the party’s Delhi unit ahead of Modi’s rally. A 80 by 20 feet stage is set up which will have two massive LED screens, a sound of the art sound system and 20 other LED screens to attract crowds. Such LED screens, the BJP says, will be set up at 100 locations along with a 100 clocks that will countdown Modi’s visit. Former Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta says, “Modi will reach by chopper. We have made a special route for him.” All this comes for a price, reportedly running into crores. The Congress and the Aam Admi Party have questioned the source of the funding. Congress leader JP Aggarwal says, “The BJP no money for MCD, dengue but they are wasting crores here.” CNN-IBN learns that the BJP is holding several meetings with minorities to ensure they turn up in skull caps and burqas. This can be seen as an effort to reach out to Muslims. BJP minority cell minister says, “We have been asked to get 25,000 Muslims to attend the rally.” Barely eight weeks before Assembly elections, Delhi BJP may not have a chief ministerial face but is depending heavily on the charisma of its prime ministerial candidate. But how much will Modi magic work in the state, only results will tell.
