31 die due to cold in Uttar Pradesh

UP-COLDLucknow, Dec 23: A minimum of thirty one people have died across Uttar Pradesh because of the extraordinary cold, officers aforesaid Tues.

A drop by the mercury accompanied  with a dense fog delayed trains and made authorities to shut schools until Dec twenty eight.

Eight people have died in eastern UP owing to the inclement weather since Mon. Six died within the Avadh region, 2 every in Meerut and Kanpur, seven in Moradabad and 6 in Aligarh because the wave continued  intense.

More than 150 trains here were delayed because of fog and poor visibility. Trains like Punjab Mail, Saryu-Yamuna express, New Delhi-Jalpaiguri express, Kota-Patna express, Sadbhavna categorical, Kumbh express, Vaishali express, besides others, were delayed by 10-12 hours, a railway official told.

Flights were conjointly discontinuous  because of dense fog Mon with the Air India flight from New Delhi delayed by six hours and a Jet Airways flight being off.

A government interpreter told that authorities have ordered all government aided and private schools within the state to stay shut until Dec twenty eight.

The minimum temperature here was five degrees Celsius Mon. The coldest place within the state at 2.3 degrees Celsius was Meerut, whereas it was 2.5 degrees Celsius in Muzaffarnagar, and 3.5 degrees Celsius in Varanasi.

The Met workplace has aforesaid the cold wave condition would continue within the returning days.
